Earlier this year fan favourite writer/artist combo Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo brought us the event storyline DARK KNIGHTS: METAL, a vast sprawling epic that saw the DC universe invaded and conquered by villains from many different dark dimensions.
The story introduced us to a line-up of evil version of Batman from different parallel universe, each darker and more sadistic than the last:
The most popular of these was, rather predictably, The Batman Who Laughs: a disturbed, creepy mashup of Batman and The Joker. Spine chilling stuff.
Well, newly announced at San Diego Come-on 2018, Scott Snyder will be teaming up with artist Jock to create a 5 part mini-series that further explores the character.
And he’s not going to be alone! He is being joined by an all new side-kick in the form of another parallel universe version of Batman, one that looks a little less Bruce Wayne and a little more Frank Castle.
This rather trigger happy looking version of Bruce is from a parallel world where, back when Martha and Thomas Wayne were murdered, going Bruce snatched Joe Chill’s gun off him- and fought fire with fire.
BUT HOLD ON!!!
Are you thinking “What on Earth is all this METAL nonsense he’s rambling on about?” For fans of big, epic, event stories that bend the brain- METAL is a must have. Here’s your guide to the 4 books in the series:
1) The Road to Metal
This exciting, time-hopping prequel sets the stage for the epic events of METAL as darkness from other dimensions starts to bleed into the mainstream DC universe.
2) Dark Knights: Metal
The core story itself. The Dark Knight has uncovered one of the lost mysteries of the universe…one that could destroy the very fabric of the DC Universe! The dark corners of reality that have never been seen till now! The Dark Multiverse is revealed in all its devastating danger-and the threats it contains are coming for the DC Universe!
3) Dark Knights Rising
Just who are these mysterious, evil versions of Batman? More about them is revealed in this book. A brilliant collection of short stories, from a range of talent, that broadens & explores the main METAL story.
4) The Resistance
Whilst Batman and the Justice League fight the main fight, this side story weaves the tale of the other heroes fighting on the front lines.
